Regulation for the overnight stay 2022
There are 3 refuges with the name Duca degli Abruzzi, please check that it is what are you looking for. We are in the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park (this error happens very often).
The refuge can only be reached only by foot and it is located at 2388 mt, on the Portella’s ridge. Being located in high mountain, check the weather forecast carefully (including the wind).
The Gran Sasso area of L’Aquila is a karst area, there are no springs or water sources where you can get supplies along most of the routes, including the refuge area.
However, bottled water can be purchased.
The refuge has a single bathroom (it has a disiposal system with imhoff tub it is therfore forbidden to introduce toilet paiper handkerchiefs, absorbents and similar, to avoid breaking the hydraulic system ) and it is not possible to take a shower. Tap water is not drinkable.
Due to the ongoing Covid situation and the particulareties of the territory in which the refuge is located, we had to take some precautions for the 2022 season.
Given the impossibility to properly sanitize the equipment (generally supplied), guests must bring: sleeping bag and personal slippers and they will have to use face mask in the common area.

Half board includes: dinner (first course, second course and dessert, excluding driks), bed and breakfast.

In order to take the advantage of the discounts, the CAI member card must be shown at the refuge (no scann, no photo) with the stamp updated to the current year.
To confirm the reservation, a deposit of € 15 per person per night must be made within 48 hours from the reservation. All information on how to book and cancel can be found on the site at the booking page.

In case of food intolerances please notify us at least three days in advance of your stay.
Luggage can be left in storage for a maximum of 48 hours.
